Today Hollywood Reporter broke with the news that Man of Steel’s Henry Cavill will be stepping away from the role of Superman in the DCEU. According to reports negotiations for a cameo in Shazam, and potentially other appearances broke down between Cavill’s rep and WB studios over the role.
Hollywood Reporter quoted a studio source as saying, "Superman is like James Bond, and after a certain run you have to look at new actors.” Currently WB’s Batman and Superman actors are in question. While WB/DCEU focus on other characters like Wonder Woman, Aquaman and apparently Supergirl, we will have to wait and see what becomes of the Last Son of Krypton and the Dark Knight in the DCEU.
WB released an official statement this morning after the news broke,
"While no decisions have been made regarding any upcoming Superman films, we've always had great respect for and a great relationship with Henry Cavill, and that remains unchanged.”
What does all of this really mean? We will have to wait and see
